Nine Emperor Gods is inspired by true events and set against the backdrop of Malaysia’s centuries-old Nine Emperor Gods faith, blending elements of folk culture, family, romance, and thriller.
Lin Shou Yi’s father, Lin Hai, is a highly respected temple caretaker at the local Nine Emperor Gods Temple. For many years, he has devoted himself to praying for devotees, helping them ward off misfortune, and protecting the temple. However, because of a long-buried family secret, Shou Yi has never truly understood his father. He also resents the Nine Emperor Gods faith and rejects the responsibility his father hopes he will one day inherit.
Meanwhile, Zhang Xiao Ya has been blessed and protected by the Nine Emperor Gods since childhood. Yet, after a series of unfortunate events in her life, she becomes known by those around her as a “jinxed girl.” Longing for love and happiness, Xiao Ya falls victim to an emotional scam that changes her life. Unexpectedly, this brings her closer to Shou Yi.
Two people, each carrying their own wounds and struggles, gradually become one another’s source of strength through a series of unexpected encounters.
But as the secrets left behind by their parents’ generation slowly come to light, a series of unforeseen crises begins to unfold at the temple. Shou Yi is forced to confront the father he has spent years avoiding, as well as the faith and responsibility he has long rejected.
