The 22nd Japanese Film Festival 2026
The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) returns for its 22nd edition in Malaysia, organized by The Japan Foundation in collaboration with GSC International Screens bringing an exciting showcase of Japanese Cinema from 8th September 2026 in Klang Valley before travelling across four other regions until 18th October 2026.
This year, JFF will screen a total of 14 curated Japanese films spanning diverse genres, including anime, kabuki-related films, suspense, comedy, heartfelt dramas alongside two 4K remastered classic films.
Among the highlights this year is a special retrospective honoring Japanese master filmmaker, director YAMADA Yoji’s remarkable legacy as he turns 95 this year, featuring TOKYO TAXI, A DISTANT CRY FROM SPRING & TORA-SAN'S MANY SPLINTERED LOVE. Widely regarded as one of Japan’s most influential directors, his works continue to resonate with audiences across generations even today.
In addition, catch a limited screening of Renjishi (The Father and Son Shishi Lions), as well as a lineup of ‘Girl Power’ films, featuring female protagonists and their journeys of resilience, self-discovery, and determination. Titles include FUJIKO, PUREHEARTED, and a 4K Remastered version of HULA GIRLS , which celebrates diverse experiences and perspectives of women through heartfelt and inspiring storytelling.
Audiences can also look forward to a Special Screening of KOKUHO on 9 September at GSC Mid Valley and GSC MyTOWN and complementing the film line-up is the 4K Remastered classic “Throne Of Blood”, from legendary director, KUROSAWA Akira, offering audiences a chance to rediscover this classic Japanese film in its restored quality.
Festivalgoers can also participate in the JFF Stamp Rally throughout the event, where collecting stamps at screenings allows you to redeem exclusive goodies and prizes.

Ticket Information
- All tickets are priced at RM10 each.
- Tickets sales start one (1) week before the first screening in each region
- Tickets are available via GSC ticketing kiosks and GSC e-payment platforms (website and mobile app).
- All tickets are non-exchangeable, non-refundable, and cannot be sold, redeemed, or exchanged for cash.

All films will be presented in Japanese with English subtitles in its original format preserving the theatrical presentation as intended by the filmmakers.
