In the vast ranching country of Hokkaido, widow Tamiko Kazami (BAISHO Chieko) struggles to raise her young son and maintain the farm left behind by her late husband. When a mysterious man, Kosaku Tajima (TAKAKURA Ken) arrives seeking work, she reluctantly takes him in. As Kosaku becomes an indispensable part of their daily lives, a deep bond forms between the three.
