In The Mood For Love

IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE premiered in competition at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival. For the film, Tony Leung became the first Hong Kong actor to be awarded the Best Actor Prize, while Christopher Doyle, Mark Lee Ping Bing and William Chang received the Grand Prize of the Superior Technical Commission. In 2017, L’Immagine Ritrovata commenced on the 4K digital restoration of the film in Bologna and Hong Kong under the supervision of Wong Kar Wai.

Synopsis

In bustling 1962 Hong Kong, Chow Mo-Wan (Tony Leung) moves into a new apartment with his wife. The same day Su Li-Zhen (Maggie Cheung) moves in next door with her husband. The two have no real relationship – they pass each other on the stairway going out to get food – until both suddenly grasp that their spouses are having an affair together. As they begin meeting to ponder this shared infidelity, Li-Zhen and Mo-Wan start to feel emotions they are not sure they can, or should, express.
