When I was single before this, I had an unforgettable experience in GSC. I had a direct long movie marathon from morning until night because I didn't have anybody, meaning single..hahahhaa
Therefore, I didn't know what to do, so I decided to go for movies. As far as I remember, I watched almost 7 movies..but the funny thing is, for 3 of the movies I just fell asleep like a baby on the highest row..since there was no people in that area...hahahaha
I grew up also with GSC because both of my sisters liked to watch movies. Can count on that every time a new movie came out, they would be there. GSC is such a second home for me. I love how GSC introduces new films, new environments..and maybe can add more space for kids.

When I was 5 years old, my dad didn’t have much but he had this way of making the little things feel big. I still remember him flipping through the newspaper, searching for movie listings, circling titles, checking showtimes. That was how we planned our cinema outings. And on one special day, he brought me by bus to GSC Leisure Mall for my very first movie.

I’ll never forget the moment we stepped in the cool air, the sound of chatter, and most of all, that warm, buttery smell of popcorn filling the air. We watched Alien Resurrection. I was terrified, of course. I held onto my dad’s arm the entire time. But somehow, being next to him made it feel safe. That moment stuck with me.

GSC Leisure Mall became more than a cinema for me it was part of my growing up. From school days, skipping classes just to catch a movie, to keeping old movie tickets like treasures. That same cinema followed me through life. Years later, on the final day of that GSC’s leisure mall last screening and I brought my wife there. It felt like coming full circle.

It may have just been a cinema to some, but to me, GSC Leisure Mall is woven into my life story. A place of comfort, connection, and countless memories with my dad, my friends, and my own little family.GSC leisure mall will always be remembered!

It was one of those weeks.
The kind where everything just… collapses.
Boss let me go. My bank account was on life support. And I hadn’t had a proper meal in two days — just roti and kopi O.

But I needed a break — even if it was just 2 hours to forget the world.
I walked into GSC The Starling Mall, not knowing what was showing. I just stood in front of the kiosk, staring at the screens.
Then I saw it: A Man Called Otto. Around RM14. Why not?

I tapped my card.
Declined.

I tapped again — slower, praying it will go through.
Declined.

I just stood there for a second, very embarrassed, pretending to "check my balance" on the screen. Truth is, my face already blushed super red and was thinking of excuses to leave gracefully — didn’t want anyone to see me like that.

Then someone behind me said,
“Bro, just pick your seat lah. I belanja.”

I turned — a kakak with curly hair, holding a Coke and popcorn. She looked like someone who just finished work.
She didn’t even wait for my reply. Just tapped her card and smiled.

“Some days we all need a movie, kan?”

I don’t remember what seat I picked. But I do remember crying silently, tears rolling down my cheek before the trailers even started.
And halfway through the movie, I actually laughed.
Really laughed. Laughing. Crying. Healing.

She sat a few seats away. When the credits rolled, she just nodded at me, gave a small wave, and left. No name. No social media. Just a random stranger who gave me something I didn’t realise I needed that day — a little bit of kindness, and space to feel human again.

Since then, I’ve gone back to GSC many times.
Not just for the movies — but because it became a reminder. That even on your lowest days, someone out there still sees you.

And now, once in a while, if I see someone struggling at the counter… I do what she did. No questions. No drama. Just a small gesture.

That’s what GSC gave me.
A seat in a cinema.
A pause from the noise.
And a moment I’ll carry forever.

#MYGSCStory started when I was 11 years old. I live in Tenom, a small town in the interior parts of Sabah. The only times I went to Kota Kinabalu, a city almost 150km away, is when we visited my older sister at her university. She took our family to go to GSC in 1Borneo, we watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. I was scared of the movie, to be honest. But I've never enjoyed a movie watching experience as much as I did before. The next time I watch a movie was in 2013, it was "EPIC", we watched it the night before my sister's convocation ceremony at the same cinema in 1Borneo, that one I really enjoyed and couldn't wait to grow up and earn money so that I could frequent going to Golden Screen Cinemas just to watch movies again. For the movies, that was the story, the popcorn on the other hand, I've been addicted to it even before i ever stepped foot in the cinema. I've always asked my father to buy some GSC popcorn for me each time he went to the city, even though he didn't watch any movie at GSC, he still went to buy some GSC popcorn for his princess. Now I am 25 years old, I finished my bachelors degree last year, I hold the precious memories of going to GSC to watch movies with my friends and family, dearly in my heart. As I write this entry, I also remember the memory of the ones I shared with my late father when we went to the movies together, we are not a privileged family, but going to GSC is one of the luxuries we could afford. Thank you GSC, I've visited you in almost every phase in my lifetime, and it always become one of the sweeter times even in rough phases of my life.

30 May 2015 will always hold a special place in my heart — it was the day of my very first date, and little did I know, it would also be the start of a forever kind of love. I was on semester break, in my final year of university, juggling assignments and exam stress. We had only known each other for two months, but he already knew I needed a break. So, he brought me to GSC IOI City Mall — my first date, first movie together, and our first step into something magical.

We watched Avengers — a perfect pick since both of us are huge fans of action-packed, superhero films. I still remember that feeling: sitting next to him, laughing over shared popcorn, whispering excited reactions during epic scenes. It was simple, but meaningful. GSC gave us the space to just enjoy each other's company without pressure or expectations.

That movie night turned into many more. From spontaneous showings to planned dates, GSC became “our” spot. Years have passed, and that sweet guy is now my husband. Life has been full of changes, but one thing remains — our love for movies. And now, our love for movies has become a family tradition. We have two beautiful kids who are already little cinema lovers — always excited to watch movies on the big screen and munch on popcorn like mummy and daddy once did. March 20, 2016. Heavily pregnant and glowing (read: waddling), I was on my baby moon with hubby—squeezing in one last movie night at GSC Pavilion before our family grew from three to four.

We watched The Kid from the Big Apple (我来自纽约)—a heartwarming local flick that already had me teary-eyed. But just as the credits rolled and I reached for a tissue, the cast appeared live beneath the screen! A real-life plot twist. Talk about a 4D experience.

We even managed a photo with them (belly front and center), making the night truly unforgettable. What started as a sweet movie date turned into a cherished memory—and a brag-worthy story I now tell as a proud mum of three wild little boys.

GSC, thanks for the magic (and the bonus cameo)!

As a child, I stepped into a GSC cinema for the very first time — small, early, yet magical. The lights dimmed, the screen lit up, and I fell in love. Cinema made me laugh, made me cry, and quietly planted a dream in my heart. That little theatre became the spark of my film journey.
I worked hard in school, studied film at university, and eventually created my own stories on screen. I joined a TV station, and later pursued a PhD in Film Studies,all because of a dream born in that dark, flickering room.
Today, I stand in front of young dreamers as a film lecturer, guiding them to find their own voices. The dream lives on through them.
Thank you, GSC, for lighting that first spark. May you continue to inspire new generations and nurture the soul of Malaysia’s film future.

A Movie Night to Remember with Dad

I still remember the very first time I stepped into a cinema. I was 16, and it was my dad who brought me. We watched *Night at the Museum* at GSC, and though I can’t recall every scene of the movie, I’ll never forget the feeling of that night.
My dad has always been careful with money. Entertainment wasn’t something he spent on often. So when he picked me up after work on his motorbike and said, “Let’s go watch a movie,” I was surprised and secretly excited. He even asked if I wanted popcorn. Although I shyly said no, he bought it anyway and handed me the first handful with a smile.
That was my very first experience in a cinema. The huge screen, the dark hall, the laughter of the audience, and most importantly, sitting next to the man who had always put our family first. He didn’t say much, but the quiet happiness on his face meant everything to me.
That night wasn’t just a movie outing. It was a memory I’ve carried in my heart ever since.
Now that I have the time, I try to take him to the movies whenever I can to create more beautiful memories, just like that very first one.
